Stepping Stones

The ASDAN Stepping Stones programme provides the opportunity for pupils to acquire, develop and record the following skills and others at Key Stage 2, and accredit them with certificates of achievement:

  • Personal and social skills
  • Independence
  • Self-confidence and maturity
  • Taking responsibility for their own health and well-being
  • Understanding their rights and responsibilities
  • Developing a greater understanding of society
  • Valuing and respecting others
  • Communication skills
  • Setting goals
  • Appreciating achievements and recognising mistakes
  • Envisaging the future
  • Participating in decision-making


There are 64 challenges in total to choose from. A minimum of 8 challenges, with at least one from each of the four study areas, should be successfully completed to be accredited with an ASDAN Stepping Stones Award.

The challenges are split into four main areas of study, with four sections within each:

  • Roles and Responsibilities
    • Myself
    • Making Choices
    • Aiming High
    • Work, Rest and Play

  • Active Citizen
    • Morals and Values
    • Decision Making
    • Global Issues
    • The Media

  • Wider Community
    • People and Places
    • Working with Others
    • Caring and Sharing
    • Beyond the Gate

  • Health and Lifestyle
    • Healthy Eating
    • Health and Safety
    • Mental Well-being
    • The Body


Certification

Certificates are purchased from ASDAN to accompany the pupil Award Books. After successful internal moderation of the pupils' work, centres can award the certificates.


Credits

The Stepping Stones Award counts as 1 credit into the Key Steps Award (which has a rating of 2 credits).
