ASDAN Short Course Awards provide a range of programmes to facilitate accreditation of young people's activities in the areas of PSHE and Citizenship, work-related learning, community volunteering, economic wellbeing, sports and fitness, enterprise, expressive arts, relationships education, outdoor and residential experiences, peer mentoring and international links.
The Short Courses usually apply to 10, 30 or 60 hour programmes. They are multi-level, which means that completion of 'Personal Challenges' together with skills development according to individual ability are the requirements, rather than the attainment of any particular level. These awards can be used as standalone awards or as progression routes into the Main ASDAN Awards (Bronze/Silver/Gold/Universities/FE Awards) or into qualifications such as CoPE or Wider Key Skills.
The following Short Course Awards are available (Click on a title for more information):
Please note that the following awards are now being phased out and will be available only as long as stocks last.
They continue to be valid for all centres who are mid-programme:
Activities are set out in the form of Personal Challenge, and all Awards are divided up into themes, or Modules. Students must complete up to 60 hours of challenges and provide evidence of recording activity, planning and reviewing, together with a summary of the skills they have developed, in order to achieve their certificate.
The flexiblilty of Short Course Awards means that they can be carried out in a variety of settings, over a time period to suit the individual or co-ordinating centre. Challenge descriptions can be interpreted and adapted according to situation.
Evidence of Personal Challenges completed, the Award book itself and Plan, Review and Summary of Skills Achievements recording documents are all collated into a 'Portfolio of Evidence'.
Award co-ordinators carry out internal moderation. The portfolios are NOT submitted for an external moderation process.
Certificates are awarded from ASDAN following successful internal moderation of the Portfolio of Evidence and the submission of candidate names to Central Office via the secure area of the website.
All Short Course certificates carry a credit rating and can be put towards the ASDAN Bronze/Silver/Gold/Universities/FE Awards and into the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) qualification. Click here to see how credits from Short Course Awards can count towards CoPE. They can also be used as evidence towards Wider Key Skills, Certificate of Community Volunteering and Career Planning qualifications.
